MCA’s annual Champions for Children Event is just three weeks away and tickets are available now! On October 27, 2015, join the Maine Children’s Alliance at the Green Ladle in Lewiston to celebrate child and family advocacy in Maine. While we reflect on the progress made for children and families in Maine this past year, we will also honor members of the community who really “stick out their necks” for Maine kids with the 2015 Giraffe Awards.
Hosted by Julia Sleeper, former Giraffe Award winner and co-founder of Tree Street Youth, the Champions for Children Event promises to be a wonderful evening celebrating communities coming together for positive change. Award-winning, Maine author, Maria Padian will give the keynote address on her young adult novel Out of Nowhere. Inspired by events in Maine, Out of Nowhere explores the complex issues of human rights, racism, cultural identity, and community through the eyes of Maine kids.
The event will also feature musical performances from the Pihcintu Multicultural Youth Choir, who demonstrate the restorative and healing power of music. Watch their performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. for World Refugee Day.
This year we have an especially impressive slate of honorees that truly emphasize that it takes all types of individuals and organization acting in various ways to create lasting and effective change for Maine kids. Learn more about this year’s Giraffe Award winners.
